Somewhere I must have read a review of this book because based on that I placed a hold on it at the library Set mostly in the Somerset England countryside it follows a woman and her descendents' through to her grandchildren Seemingly about the family in general it seemed to me to me mostly about affairs failed love affairs aborted love affairs marriages made not for love that turn into love love affairs derailed by differences of nationality and class etc etc The story starts just as WWII is erupting in Europe and ends some 50 or 60 years later Kind of interesting to have yet another view of how WWII manifested in the lives of those in England in the French Resistance I didn't realize DeGaulle exhorted Frenchmen to escape to England and from there fight against the Germans and in France And how the aftermath of WWII played out in the lives of folks in England I wish I could find the original review I read to see how they probably glowingly described this book and compare it to my impressions IMHO an OK read but nothing to write home about

I uite liked this book Personally i love world war books and i've read uite a few I liked the writing style of the dialogue and the play format of the book just makes it clearer The book really shows the troubles of life in war and its effect on people and i like how the book has a realistic sense to it because in life not many people prevail through war
