    Sinaiee Iranian food blogger and home cookstarts with an insightful look at how Iranian meals are structured and emphasizes the seasonal nature of meals The book is divided seasonally while emphasizing classic dishes and regional specialities with an emphasis on simplifying when possiblePictures highlight the beauty of the table and the outdoors as well as the beauty of the food She also includes dramatic Iranian scenery and family pictures Unusual ingredients such as barberries and dried rose petals appear in many recipes and are explained in the glossary with in many cases possible substitutions provided Recipes are clear but not particularly precise For example “fry until golden brown” with no corresponding amount of time And a certain level of preparation is assumed so if you are cooking the hole fish recipe it starts with rub salt on the outside and inside skipping any steps to get the fish ready for that Fresh herbs figure prominently in savory dishes Desserts tend to be light and fruit forward with the exception of pastries Several recipes feature noodles which I found interesting and unusual The basics section at the end does a nice job of explaining how a Persian meal is served which was useful for this reader who knows very little about Persian food This section also includes recipes for very simple dishes including a couple of recipes for how to prepare steamed rice braised meat breads relishes pickles and salads
