Not So Much Wide As DeepThere are lots of hikes books that are intended to provide a wide survey of all of the hikes and walks in an area, and they are great for providing a little bit of everything, especially to tourists and visitors or to walkers of widely varying skill and interest levels This book struck me as being a bit different It seemedto be focused on a few exceptional hikes, withdetail, background and description than usual. As noted in the introduction, we get 13 hikes Not So Much Wide As DeepThere are lots of hikes books that are intended to provide a wide survey of all of the hikes and walks in an area, and they are great for providing a little bit of everything, especially to tourists and visitors or to walkers of widely varying skill and interest levels This book struck me as being a bit different It seemedto be focused on a few exceptional hikes, withdetail, background and description than usual. As noted in the introduction, we get 13 hikes for each of the four major islands These hikes include a few pleasant walks, but mostly includerigorous hikes, and even the occasional overnight backpack As a consequence this felt like it was intendedfor residents and longer term visitors than casual tourists But I guess than underestimates the stamina or interests of some tourists. In any event, and regardless of your trip plans, the actual hikes and trail descriptions are handy and interesting Each hike has all of the required basics how to get there, trailhead description, length, elevation gain, and the like There are small scale topo maps to help you get oriented But in addition, there are congenial narratives withthan the usual descriptions This makes the book especially browseable, and so it seems like it would be especially helpful to someone beginning to narrow down which hikes to look into further.Nowadays, of course, there is all sorts of useful hike information on the internet, with some hike sites being really detailed This book, though, felt like it offered a nice balance that would help a hiker begin the process of exploring his or her options In that regard alone it scored as a nice find Please note that I received a free advance will self destruct in x days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book
